Set up a stand¶
A following device, a player's stand on stage or the conductor's screen in the studio, takes its clock from a master: the concert conductor's device, or the DAW through the Link plug-in. Counter, beat dots, streamers and page turns follow, with your own part on the page. It takes two minutes before the first rehearsal and then looks after itself.
The first-launch question
Choosing Player / Studio Conductor when CueConductor first opens does steps 3 to 6 below for you, with the audio muted while synced. Switch Mute Audio During External Sync off in Sync Settings if you want the click or the mix from this device, for example in earbuds.
What you need¶
- An iPad or iPhone with CueConductor from the App Store. Pro is not needed to follow.
- The rehearsal Wi-Fi, the same network as the conductor.
- The cue, from the catalog, from a shared link, or pushed by the conductor.
Steps¶
- Install the app and open it.
- Get the cue. Tap the link the conductor sent, or open Tips → Browse CueConductor Catalog and download it. Enter the PIN if the title asks for one.
- Name your device. Tap Sync, scroll to Device Display Name and type something the conductor will recognise, such as "Horn 2".
- Follow. In the same sheet choose Link to DAW as the sync source and leave Follow Master on Any Master. Switch on Follow Master's Cue and Accept Pushed Cues.
- Pick your part. Open the cue, tap Part and choose yours. Every cue remembers it.
- Decide whether this device makes sound. Under Sync Settings, Mute Audio During External Sync keeps it silent while it follows, which is the usual stand. Switch it off for the click and FOH under your own faders, which is what you want with earbuds.
When the conductor presses Play, your screen follows.
Earbuds¶
Wired earbuds just work. Bluetooth earbuds work too, and the click is sent early to land on the beat. See Earbuds on a stand for the trim.
If it doesn't work¶
- "Waiting to connect." Same Wi-Fi as the conductor, and the conductor must have Conduct switched on. School and guest networks often block device-to-device traffic; ask for the rehearsal network or a hotspot.
- The cue does not open when the conductor's does. Follow Master's Cue switches when the transport stops, never mid-playback.
- The stand shows a different cue than the conductor. Download the cue, or ask the conductor to switch on Push Cues to Stands.
